[07.Nov.2008 - 12:30]
Friday, 07 November 2008 Veteran politician and former president of ANP, Ajmal Khattak has said that the country is confronted with several challenges but all such issues can be resolved with national reconciliation and consensus. Talking to APP from his hometown Akora Khattak (Nowshera) after shifting from hospital, he said that the law and order situation, particularly in NWFP and FATA is very grim but the democratic government can progress on the issue with political will and above self-interest. The economic crisis, price-hike have badly affected the middle and lower middle class and there is a dire need that the democratic government should fully concentrate on the issues with sincerity and commitment to steer the country out of it, he said. The poet-cum-politician Ajmal Khattak said that it was need of the hour that all political parties and democratic forces should get united to face the challenges and struggle for its resolution. To a question about the coalition government of ANP and PPP in NWFP, he said the people have given them the mandate and they can prove to come upto the expectations of the people. Lauding the peace accord in Swat, he said ,it has remained the centric role of the policies of Khudai Khidmatgar Tehrik. He warned that creating any hurdle in the way of peace talks would have dangerous effects. About change of name of the NWFP as Pukhtoonkhwa, he said that the real issue today is provincial autonomy, which has been fully guaranteed in the 1973 Constitution but has not been implemented. The ailing Ajmal said that all the three names, Afghania, Pukhtoonistan and Pukhtoonkhwa are suitable and any one out of it can be taken as new name of the province. About ´Kamal-e-Fun Award´ 2007, he said he was thankful to chairman Academy of Letters and his colleagues. I had accepted the honour with thank but refused to take the amount of Rs 5,00,000 with the award so that it could be given to the deserving writers and poets. ´´I never accepted any financial help from any government during my entire life as I believe in propensity not in prosperity,´´ Ajmal Khattak replied to a question. It is pertinent to mention here that Ajmal Khattak had also returned Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2007. He said that,´´ My literary work is for the people and country and the people have recognized and praised my poetry and all this is the asset of my life.
