Asfadnyar Wali Khan speaks at Luncheon

ANP-14.11.2008: Asfndyar Wali Khan, Central President of Awami National Party on Thursday urged politicians and Civil society to step forward and help government steer the country out of daunting crisis.

Addressing a luncheon, hosted by independent MPA Dr. Khalid Raza Zakori at a local hotel in Peshawar, Asfandyar Wali conceded that the growing insurgency has gripped Pakhtun land and hundreds of children are falling victim to the menace on one hand, while we, the Pakhtuns are indulging in internal disputes over petty issues, on the other. He was of the view that Pakistan was passing through very critical phase of its history and if present leadership failed to assess the situation, the further generations would never forgive them. Asfandyar said that being a responsible members of the society, we should question ourselves as to whether it is simple law and order situation or an open insurgency, that we are facing nowadays. ´´I think majority of people consider it an open insurgency and everyone knows, how an insurgency should be dealt with´´, he said. He urged that society and government should wage a joint war against militancy and insurgency. He said that this was not a fight between religious and infidel forces as terrorists had even bombed and targeted mosques, Hujras (Jirga) and even funeral prayers.´´ Today, we have to tell the world as to where we stand either for peace or war, for love or hatred and to kill and to be killed´´, he emphasized. He said that being politicians, journalists, religious scholars and other responsible members of society, we have to tell the truth. About Maulana Fazlur Rehman´s remarks and the issue of ´´Greater Pakhtunistan´´ he refused to pass any remarks, saying, he had great regard for him. ´´ Instead of indulging in petty confrontations, we should focus on our main problems´´. he added. He maintained that his enemies were only those who were bent upon killing children and turning them as human bombs. ´´We still believe in process of dialogues and negotiations and even the person, who masterminded attack on my own life will be forgiven, if he renounces the violence´´ , he voiced. He said that ANP had always opposed foreign interference and would still fully oppose if external or internal forces attack Pakistan´s soil. ´´Peace and stability in Pakistan and Afghanistan are co-related, as a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan was a must for peace and tranquility in Pakistan´´, he stressed. He said that if Punjab had the right over its wheat, Pakhtunkhwa should also have authority over electricity it was generating. He said that his party did not strive only for political autonomy but also demanded complete provincial autonomy. Addressing a luncheon ,Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has said that the prosperity and real development of the province is linked to execution of mega projects in irrigation sector citing the examples of Kurram-Tangi Dam, Gomal Zam and Left Canal projects.
Asfandyar Wali Khan,Ameer Haider Khan Hoti,Bashir Ahmad Bilour,Mian Iftikhar Hussain,Sayed Aqil Shah,Shah-i-Sayeed and Khalid Raza Zakori Provincial presidents of the ANP Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, provincial ministers Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Mian Iftikhar, Sayed Aqil Shah and others were present on the occasion. ´´In order to reduce to the poverty and remove backwardness from the province, two pilot projects would be launched,´´ the Chief Minister said. He said that the province was comparatively more backward and poor and also facing more difficult and complex situation as compared to other provinces of the country. Ameer Haider Hoti said that due to lack of proper irrigation infrastructure, the province is unable to properly use its share of waters. ´´The province is facing food shortage because thousands of acres of land is laying barren,´´ he added. The CM said that the country was consuming the hydro electricity mostly produced in Pakhtunkhwa therefore the province share in the wheat production in the Punjab province should also be respected. Hoti said that launching mega projects in irrigation sector would enable the province to avoid seeking help from other provinces and the centre as it would become self-sufficient in food. About hike in the power tariff, the Chief Minister said that they raised their voice against increase in the power tariff in the province and even moved to court for seeking stay order against the decision. The CM further said his government believed in uniform development of all the districts, saying the districts of Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan would be given more priority for their development. Speaking on the occasion, Central President of the Awami National Party Asfandiyar Wali Khan said that the country was passing through a critical juncture of its history and it was the time to strike unity among their ranks to get rid of the crises.[/tr] - د پښتونخوا خبریال
