Peace rally and Vigil at the shrine of Rehman Baba
[09.Mar.2009 - 11:20]09.03.2009:When the terrorists and anti-Pashtun forces targeted the holy shrine of Rehman baba, a Pashtun Poet the people of Pakhtunkhwa denounced it and Pashtun thought it as an attack on their culture and national asset. Almost all people having affailiation with political parties, and other civil society organisations rose against this barbarism and started protests demonstrations and condemned it. One such peace rally was organised at the tomb of Rehman baba the other day in which political activists, literary persons, poets, writers, journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and representatives of civil society enthusiastically participated. The people gathered at Hazarkhwani Chowk Ring Road on Saturday 5.30 pm and started walk towards the shrine of Rehman baba with white flowers and candles in their hands. The rally was led by Syed Mukhtar Bacha, (National Party), Zahir Baburi Director Culture Afghan Consulate Peshawar, Gulalai Wali khan(Daughter Of Wali Khan),Said Aqil Shah Minister of culture and tourism, Qaisar Khan Advocate, Khadim Hussain AIRRA, Dr. Said Alam Mehsud (PMAP), Muhammad Idrees Kamal (CRSD) Shahabuddin Khattak Advocate, Fazal Ilahi Advocate, Ajmal khan Musazai, Shamim Shahid(The Nation),Shaukat Khattak (Sama TV) ,Rekhshanda Naz(AF),Zubaida Noor(NET) , Behroz Khan(The News), Riffatullah Orakzai(BBC), Dr. Fazal Din Khattak, Khan Habib Afridi, Niaz Muhammad Zakhakhel( NP FATA), Dr. Alam Yousafzai, Wahid Afridi, Ameer Muhammad Khan(DUNYA tv), Shaukat Sharar, Iltaf Bacha, Noor Bacha, Naeem Gul Suri(SRD), Fazal Raziq, Ghani Rehman(HEARD), Shahsawar Khan (HEAD) and Zar ali khan musazai of Pakhtun Democratic Council. The rally was welcomed by the people when passing through the area. People took keen interest and appreciated the move of the participants of the rally and termed it a new hope in the life of people who were very upset and disgusted with mischievous acts of terrorism by the miscreants and terrorists at the mausoleum of the great Pashtun mystic poet Rehman baba and they participated in the rally which added a new spirit in the rally and people started chanting slogans in the favor of Rehman baba, peace and tranquility and against terrorism and fundamentalism. The rally was warmly received by the followers and lovers of Rehman baba at the entrance of the tomb and participated with the participants of the peace rally. Candles were lighted at the tomb and white flowers wreaths were laid while petals were thrown at the tomb of Rehman baba. People remained very peaceful there and prayed collectively for the soul of Rehaman Baba and once again demanded of the government to nab the terrorists, bring them to the court of law and give them exemplary punishment so that no one could dare to commit such heinous crime in future. The rally demanded the mausoleum of Rehman Baba to be reconstructed immediately, proper security measure should be adopted to protect shrine from such terrorist activities in future. - Zia Ur Rehman
