Pashto Day opened at Khyber Girls Med. College

Saturday, 18 April 2009 Students urged to promote Pashto language and culture, Pakhtuns had abandoned their own culture that was why they were loosing their identity among the nations KW News Peshawar: Eminent Scholar writer and chairman of Pashto Department University of Peshawar Professor Abaseen Yousafzai inaugurated ´´Pakhto Day´´ on Thursday during the: Literary week 2009´´ being in progress at Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC), Peshawar. MBBS students of the college presented heart-thrilling Pashto cultural events during the week. The function was also attended by Principal KGMC Prof: Dr. Zubair Khan, Chairman Literary Society Dr. Abdul Jalil, Dr. Sheraz Jamal, Dr. Maqbool Ilahi, Dr. Nageen, Dr. Nadia, MD Saffran Pharmaceuticals Nasrullah Rehman, Dr. Ahmad Ali, poet Zafar Khan Zafar and large number of MBBS first, second, third and fourth year students. During the Pashto Day students presented speeches poems, Ghazals, witty dialogues, traditionally Pashto cultural presentations. They were greatly applauded by the audience. They put before the audience the real picture of the Pashtun society and spoke about the present day cultural charges. They lamented that the Pukhtuns had abandoned their own culture that was why they were loosing their identity among the nations. Professor Abaseen Yousafzai spoke on the importance of the Pashto language and culture and stated that Pashto culture had wide range of activities that seldom exist in other cultures. He greatly commended the Pashto cultural activities of the MBBS students and their linguistic approach side by side their professional studies. He called upon the students of the KGMC not to avoid speaking their mother tongue even if they were forced to do so. He stressed the need for better students, teacher relationship and expressed with optimism that the young and brilliant students of the KGMC would go a long way in their professional fields. MD Saffran Pharmaceutical Nasrullah Rehman, who sponsored the ´´Pashto Day´´ also spoke on the occasion and lauded the live activities of the students of the KGMC. He also presented cash prizes to the students who performed on the stage during the Pakhto Day. Dr. Nageen, poet Zafar Khan Zafar and others also addressed the occasion. Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the Pashto Day by cutting the tape.
