ZHOB:24.06.2010 Thousands of people took out a protest rally against QESCO over prolonged power outages. The protesters chanted slogans against the local administration, QESCO authorities and Sadar Jan SDO WAPDA. Malik Sheikh Muhammad Yar Khan Mandokhail led the rally. Addressing the protesters, Malik Sheikh Muhammad Yar Khan Mandokhail, Qazi Ahmed Khwasti, Rashid Sial Kakar, Malik Lawang Khan Mandokhail, Dawood Khan Mandokhail, Sheikh Muhammad Ashraf Khan Mandokhil, Muhammad Yousaf Mandokhail, Malko and Rafo Laoon, said ´´the people of Zhob are fed up with the long duration and unscheduled load-shedding. The children and women are facing a lot of problems and business of Zhob is totally destroyed, but the government is not devising any comprehensive policy to get rid of this menace. The elected representatives also remain silent spectators in this regard. Load-shedding has now swelled to 18 hours a day´´. They further said that frequent power suspension had caused several problems for the people and unavailability of water had become a major issue in the district. They complained that as soon as Sadar Jan has assumed charge as SDO, the problems of people regarding the power increased manifold. Due to this ruthless and intense quandary of load shedding everyone is suffering a lot mainly the poor and lower class people because they are having not that much resource to afford the alternatives like generators or UPS. The protesters threatened to go to violent, if the QESCO authorities failed to improve the situation and also warned that If SDO was not transferred, their line of action would be more severe. EDO Revenue Nazar Muhammad Kethran assured the protesters of prompt action upon which they dispersed.- Rafiullah Mandokhail
