Bacha Khan hailed as South Asian giant
[21.May.2008 - 20:42]Kabul (PAN) Afghan, Tajik Pakistani and Indian research scholars shed light on various aspects of the life. Struggle and philosophy of illustrious freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, popularly known as Baacha Khan, at a seminar here on Tuesday.
Organized by the Regional Studies Centre (RSC) of Afghanistan, the largely-attended seminar was compared by veteran Pakhtun nationalist and Awami National Party leader Mohammad Afzal Khan Lala.
Barialay Bajauri, in his paper, explained the various aspects of the life of Baacha Khan with great details and termed his life a beacon of light for not only Afghan but for all the deprived nationalities of the world.
Radha Kumar, chairperson of Nelson Mandela peace center of Jamia Millia Islamia of India said we in South Asia often forget that freedom movements could not succeed without extraordinary people and we were fortunate as we had a number of such extraordinary personalities and Baacha Khan was among the most towering leader among them.
“When I was a student we were taught that we have two Mahatmas – one our Gandhi and the other your Baacha Khan,” She remarked. She said Baacha Khan believed that a truly independent society could be established only when all section of the society had equal opportunities and that was why he established schools and madrassas to create political awareness.
RSC, India Peace Centre ink MoU: memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in sector of education and studies between the Nelson Mandela Peace Center of India and Regional Studies Center of Afghanistan was inked here on Tuesday.
The MoU was signed between chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Peace Center, Radha Kumar and director of the Afghanistan Regional Studies Center Abdul Ghafoor Liwal.
According to MoU, the two centers will cooperate with each other in fields of regional studies, organizing conferences, training of the Afghan students in India, strengthening of peace in the region and good relations between India Afghanistan.- Pashtoonkhwa
