Bilour flays delay in Diamer-Bhasha dam
[26.May.2008 - 23:53]Nowshehra, May.23; Opposing the construction of Kalabagh dam, Federal Minister for Local Bodies Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour said that if work on projects like Diamer-Bhasha and Katzara dams was launched in time the crises like food shortage and loadshedding could have been averted.
The federal minister, while speaking at a reference held at Nowshera Press Club in the memory of Pir Sikandar Shah on his 6th death anniversary, said that more than two decades were wasted on developing consensus for the construction of a particular mega hydro project and that was why the country was facing shortage of wheat and electricity.
Regarding restoration of deposed judges Bilour said that independence of judiciary is inevitable for the stability of democracy.
He said that greater responsibility lied on the shoulders of the leadership of the two main parties in the ruling coalition to steer the country out of the prevailing crises.
Ghulam Ahmad Bilour asked journalists to create awareness among the masses with objective reporting of different events and candid analysis of world affairs that have a bearing on the country.
The minister said, “We must provide education to our youth so that they can contribute to economic development and prosperity of the nation.
But unfortunately some with vested interest are bent upon depriving them from their right of getting education, as bombs are being given in their hands instead of books, he remarked.
Bilour praised the services of Pir Sikandar Shah in the field of journalism and social work.
