We did not request operation in FATA
[05.Jul.2008 - 20:59]Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has said that the provincial government will never compromise over making secured the lives and properties of the people and curbing criminal activities in the province.
“Our efforts and policy for securing peace through talks and negotiations will continue till a complete end to the insurgency and insecurity in the region,” Hoti told provincial ministers and members of provincial assembly during his weekly meeting with them at his office on Thursday.
Those who met the chief minister including provincial ministers Zarsheed Khan, Saleem Khan, Habibur Rehman Tanoli and MPAs Dr. Iqbal Fanah, Waqar Ahmad, Dr. Shamsher Ali, Israrullah Gandapur, Sarfraz Khan Jadoon, Dr. Haider Ali, Mufti Syed Janan, Shekeel Bashir Omarzai, Sanaullah Miankhel, Malak Badshah Saleh, Akhtar Nawaz, Malak Hayat, Shagufta Malik, Yasmin Zia, Shahzia Aurangzeb, Syeda Batool Nasir, Sanjeeda Yousaf, Sajida Tabassum, Yasmin Jaseem, Tabassum Shams and Noor Shahar.
Talking about the ongoing operation, the chief minister said that it was launched against the criminals including car-lifters, kidnappers for ransom and robbers and other criminals. “The operation is purely aimed at establishing writ of the government in the area and to arrest the elements who are involved in anti-social activities,” Hoti added.
He said it was the foremost responsibility of the government to provide security to the people against any threat to their lives and properties.
The chief minister added that a policy has been evolved on federal level for curbing extremism and militancy in which negotiations and developmental activities in troubled areas had been given priority.
He said the provincial government wanted to keep intact the agreements reached in Swat and Dir. However, he said some forces were trying to sabotage the processes and create hurdles in way of provincial government efforts for peace and stability in the region.
“We have support of the Prime Minister and the federal government in regard to peace agreements,” Hoti added.
He also rebuffed the impression that the operation in FATA was launched on the request of provincial government.
Hoti said operation in settled areas has been started against criminals who took advantage of the volatile situation and have made miserable the lives of common people.
Referring to the problems of power load-shedding and soaring price hike, Ameer Haider Hoti said like the issues of law and order and insecurity, these problems were also inherited his government from the past regime.
“The provincial government is fully aware of the problems being faced by the people of the province, and is working hard to reduce the intensity of these problems,” he said
The Chief Minister said that PESCO officials have been directed to avoid unnecessary and unscheduled power load-shedding as it was creating problems for provincial government as a result of unrest among the people.
He on this occasion appealed to masses to remain calm and exhibit patience as the whole country was in grip of energy crisis.
Haider Khan Hoti said that flour situation in the province was returning to normalcy and hoped the situation in the market will further improve in next couple of days.
He also stressed upon the ministers and members of the provincial assembly to enhance their contacts with the people of their respective constituencies. He said the government was working on a comprehensive planning in order to resolve the people’s problems in the areas of education, health, drinking water and road networks, etc. (ANP)
