Militants attack house of ex-minister Afzal Khan Lala

MINGORA: Militants in Drushkhela area of the restive Swat valley attacked the house of former federal minister and Awami National Party’s senior leader, Afzal Khan Lala, with rockets but he and his family members remained unscathed.
The militants attacked the home of veteran nationalist leader and his son, Col (R) Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Tuesday night with rockets and other heavy weapons which damaged the main gate and parts of the house but no casualty was reported.
ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan and other party leaders condemned the attack on Afzal Khan’s house. Reacting to the incident, he expressed astonishment and disappointment over the attack and said his family had neither enmity nor had harmed any person but still an attack on them was out of his mind.
Meanwhile, 12 villagers were injured as security forces continued pounding the suspected positions of Taliban in different parts of the Kabal and Matta area Wednesday. Three young men trying to swim across the swift-flowing river Swat during curfew hours, to reach their homes in Shah Dheray village were drowned. Bodies of the two were recovered from the river while search was on for the third one.
