Awakened Youth Association (AYA) was founded in 2007 with its main office in Kabul and zonal offices in seven major cities of Afghanistan. AYA is primarily aiming at raising public awareness of youths; fostering youth’s active involvement in local democracy; promoting voluntarism & encouraging the inclusion of young people in decision making process.
Vision:
To actively involve youths in the local community and governance through empowerment and participation of youth in the processes and decisions that affect their lives; and making youths realize their rights and potential.
Mission:
Our mission is to support voluntary youth groups to achieve the highest standards of practice and effectiveness. We focus on youth issues and finding ways of addressing them and thus making youths aware of their fundamental rights and potential.
Aims and Objectives:
- To raise public awareness of youth and accordingly motivating them to get involve in raising of - public awareness;
- To foster youth’s active involvement in local democracy;
- To promote voluntarism by youths in their communities;
- To advocate for gender equity and prevent violation against women;
- To develop future leaders by broadening youth horizon;
- To promote health as an elementary human right;
- To advocate the rights of youth;
- To raise awareness of youths regarding counter narcotic practices;
- To provide non-formal education opportunities for unemployed youth;
- To encourage the empowerment and participation of youth in the processes and decisions that affect their lives.
Principles and Values:
Awakened Youth Association (AYA) is underpinned by a set of principles and values which are shared within the association:
- All people have rights and liberties including the right to be heard and be freed from oppression;
- All people have skills, knowledge and experience that they can use for the benefit of themselves and others;
- Young people should be valued for who they are and not only for who they will become;
- Young people are agents of change and a resource to be developed;
- The needs of young people are often different from those of children and distinct from those of adults;
- Services for young people should be responsive to changing needs, interests and aspirations;
- The principal values and approaches of youth work should be sustained and refashioned for new times and settings; &
- Continuous improvement in the quality of youth work and youth services helps secure better outcomes for young people.
