Khas Kunar
The Khas Kunar district is the largest district in the Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It is situated in the southern part of the province and borders with Nangarhar Province to the South and Pakhtunistan to the East. The Kunar river passes North from the district and irrigates the surrounding land. The population is 31,000 (2006). The district center Khas Kunar village is located at 34.6458° N 70.9008° E at 749 m altitude. Most of the houses were destroyed during the wars and the drought also has seriously affected the lands far from the Kunar river.
Khas Kunar District is located to the South side of Kunar River, at a distance of 38 Km from the center of Kunar.
Khas Kunar is attached to Kuz Kunar (Khiwa) district of Nengarhar Province. Khas Kunar is the biggest District of
Kunar and consists of 5 big villages. Khas Kunar has good agricultural land. During the Russian invasion, most of the
houses were destroyed. Drought affected most of the cultivated land. A part of the land is irrigated by Kunar
River and another part of the land has been destroyed by this river. To come from Khas Kunar to Koz Kunar (Khiwa)
District, one has to pass Naw Abad bridge of Kunar Province or Kama bridge, which is more than 70 Km away. If
Khas Kunar is connected by bridge to Khiwa District, the distance will be become at least 20 times shorter.
Building such a bridge will be very useful for the inhabitants of Gorak village of Khiwa District,as it will facilitate
their daily activities.
Khas Kunar is a green District if comparied to the other Kunar Province Districts. There are more
education and health facilities in that area when compared to other districts in Kunar.
