Interviewed By: Abdul Hayee Aryan If we see through an artist eye, it is deemed a good tiding when new and imperative creations in literature are introduced either in national or international literature. Artists are the real people who run the world.
An artist can be a person who expresses himself through a medium´´ The word also is used in a qualitative sense of, a person creative in, innovative in, or adept at, an artistic practice. Most often, the term describes those who create within a context of ´high culture´, activities such as drawing, painting, sculpture, acting, dancing, writing, filmmaking, photography, and music. People use imagination, talent, or skill to create works for furnishing an aesthetic value.
PashtoonKhawa Watan has gifted many versatile artists in the fields of drama writers, acting, singers and music that have lighted the name of the country especially in Southern PashtoonKhawa. But Amanullah Nasar is the person who has a unique versatility and he is a drama artist, writer, compere, singer poet and above all best comedian. He started his show biz career from Radio Pakistan Quetta and PTV Quetta center; now he is among the top drama artists and writers in the Pakistan and Afghanistan. Abdul Hayee Aryan interviewed him a couple of days back and his interview is presented here for the magazine viewers.
Aryan: How and when did you join drama filed as an artist? Amanullah: On the whole I am an artist by birth. When I was school student, since then I used to act and copy famous heroes’ dialogues. Even if I belonged to a poor and traditional Pashtoon family yet my inside artist persuaded me to express myself and hence I appeared on stage as professional in 1985. And afterwards I worked as drama artist, singers and compere in Radio Pakistan Quetta. And in 1991 I started working as an artist in PTV Quetta center. Aryan: Which kinds of characters (in a drama) do you like to perform? Amanullah: being an artist, I enjoy performing all kinds of characters however, I really like to act as comedian.
Aryan: What is your first drama you worked in as artist? Amanullah: In 1991 Kor Me Tarta Jar was my first drama in which I worked as an artist. And later on also worked in 1/3, Azangey, Palwashey and some other programs. Aryan: besides acting, Amanullah Amanullah is also known as best writer and director, sir among these fields which one do you like the most? Amanullah: I have joined show biz as an artist and I worked in 25 Urdu serials, 18 Pashto serials, single plays and later on I started direction, production and script writer. ‘Janan Dubai ta Rawan-e-Zi and Jannat’ were my first directed dramas however, I really like the field of directions. Aryan: How many dramas have you directed, written and worked in as drama artist? Amanullah: As a writer, drama serial “Armanunaa” was my first drama that was directed by Attaullah Baloch. And later on War,Behlawa, Matti, Gul-Bashra, Siskian, Bina-Kangan Ki and many other serials and single plays. I have written 20 drama serials including Pashto and Urdu and 10 single plays while Janan Dubai Ta Rawan-e-Zi and Jannat’ were my first directed dramas. As drama artist, I have worked in 25 Urdu serials and 18 Pashto serials as a main character. I have also written and worked as compere in 400 stage shows and Floor Shows. Aryan: Amanullah Nassar was also singing in the past however, since long we have not listened to your any fresh audio songs? Amanullah: (Smiling) I have sung and recorded 22 audio songs and 50 video songs volumes. The Poetry, music and composition of a song are my own. And I still wish to sing songs but due to lack of time, I can not do so. Aryan: Do you Write dramas and other scripts only for PTV or for private channels too? Amanullah: (Smiling) by the grace of Almighty Allah, I have written drama serials for all famous private channels of Pakistan including Geo, Hum, ARY channel, Tv One, Indus Vision and Avt Khyber channels. And I have the credit that all the big drama artists of the country say Ferdus Jamal, Zaiba Bakhtyar, Abid Ali, Talaat Hussein, Rahat Kazmi and others have worked in my drama serials. And another credit that goes to me is that well known directors and producers of the country including Sajjad Ahmed, Abdi Ali,Farooq Ahmed Mengal, Abbas Kakar Attaullah Baloch and others have directed my written drama serials. Aryan: You are the crème writer and drama artist in Pakistan, have you ever been awarded with any national award?
Amanullah: I have obviously worked as main character in many famous drama serials. And I have also written many drama serials and most of them including ‘Gul-Bashra, Matti, Quetta Sey Balakot’ have been awarded with national and International awards ( Lux Militia Award 2007) unfortunately, I have yet been selected for any awards and incentives. Aryan: What are your upcoming dramas? Amanullah: Khana-Badosh, Buddha, Anukey Reshtay and four Pashto drama serials are my upcoming dramas and I have annexed great expectations with their due success. Aryan: What kinds of Drama do you like to watch? Amanullah: I watch all kinds of dramas comedy, tragedy or social. However, I fell like watching the drama that is capable to give any message. Aryan: How many children do you have? Amanullah: I have got three children one daughter and two sons. My daughter is matriculation student while my sons Khpal Waak Khan and Gulzar Khan are eight class students. Aryan: What should be the qualities of a drama? Amanullah: A production should be representing a society. And being a mirror, script should be intelligent and the dialogues should have qualities to mould aesthetic sense of viewers. And by watching such types of programs, viewers could be able to cope up with their daily lives issues and conflicts. Aryan: You are too busy how do you get leisure for your family? Amanullah: (Smiling) I have obviously a very busy life however, I manage to give time to my family. I pick and drop my children from their schools daily; I go to Bazzar with them for shopping and even sometimes we also go on picnic to Ziarat or any other picnic place outside of the city. Aryan: Being a creative person you would listen to music. What kind of music do you listen to? Amanullah: I listen to all kinds of music however; classical music and singers are my most favorite ones. Aryan: Is there any one else from your family in the show biz? Amanullah: No I am the one and only from my family who has joined the show biz. Aryan: how life should be lived Simple or luxurious life? Amanullah: to me simple life is always comfortable. Simple foods including pulses, vegetables and dresses should be used because luxurious life forces person towards corruption that could merely disturbance in one’s life. Aryan: Have you ever worked in any Movie or have you any planning to make a movie? Amanullah: Once I intended to make a movie on great leader Bacha Khan and along my written script I went to Lahore where I was offered to work in a movie but due to some reasons, I denied to work as the story of today’s Pashto movies are not presenting our culture however, I would work in a movie that doesn’t injure feelings of viewers. However, currently I wrote a script of a movie that would be directed by renowned director Talha Ghaznovi in English language.
Aryan: Sir! Please any message for your Pashtoon aficionados and other viewers? Amanullah: I would say simply that we should bury the hatchet and throw away armaments taken against each other and follow the philosophy of ‘Non-Violence Setting a blaze schools and other assets would push us to the verge of backwardness and deprivation. We should go with the world it is Science and Technology era. Nations can compete with one another by getting quality education and media is the mightiest tool of development and competition if properly used. Pakistan is our country we should hand together to strengthen it because stabled and peaceful Pakistan guarantees our protection and brighter future.
